A groups of leather industry organisations have published free leather technology self-study modules, now available to download. Report by ILM.
The modules have been reviewed and approved the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS), the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists (SLTC), the American Leather Chemists Association (ALCA), the Confederation of National Associations of Tanners and Dressers of the European Community (COTANCE) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
Developed by industry expert Richard Daniels, these modules consolidate decades of experience into accessible learning materials. Daniels has dedicated extensive time and effort to creating these resources to benefit individuals and businesses in the leather sector.
The first module, “Leather: An Introduction”, serves as a foundational guide, offering essential background information for those new to the field or seeking a general understanding of leather technology.
The second module, “Leather: An Overview of Manufacture”, is a more in-depth, 10-section study aimed at individuals aspiring to become leather technicians. This advanced module provides detailed insights into the manufacturing processes and technical aspects of leather production.
Designed for self-study and professional training, these modules are also utilised in formal education as introductory and intermediate learning materials. Together, they comprise approximately 45,000 words and feature over 450 images and industrial photographs, ensuring clarity through a combination of concise text and visual aids. Additionally, they serve as valuable reference tools for distance learning and corporate training programs.
The modules can be downloaded for free from the various organisations’ websites and can be found on the IULTCS website
