Building on our recent joint statement, this newsletter highlights the flaws in the current A&F durability metrics within the broader EU regulatory context.

Failing to update how the durability of apparel & footwear is measured, risks misleading consumers in their perception of materials like leather, wool, and fur. The durability that they confer to apparel and footwear is flattened by the PEFCR metrics. Penalising them by not acknowledging their true environmental virtues, harms the fashion industry’s competitiveness all along the various value chains.

That’s why we’re advocating for a much-needed revision, ensuring that product lifespan is measured in years, not wears, & to accurately reflect the longevity of consumer articles made with these materials.
