Simon Neifer writes on LinkedIn: One of the biggest lies in fashion? That “vegan leather” is better for the planet.
In reality, PU and PVC leathers take centuries to degrade, releasing toxic chemicals and microplastics into the environment.
Real leather?
It’s biodegradable. It breaks down like any other organic matter—because it is organic.
The UN Environment Programme warns that:
“Microplastics have now been found in human blood, lungs, and even the placenta.”

When we choose fake leather, we’re not avoiding harm—we’re just delaying it, and passing it on to the next generation.
Real leather, made responsibly, isn’t the problem.
