A recent study led by Stephen G. Wiedemann (published in Resources, Conservation and Recycling, 2023) revealed some insights into the environmental impact of our clothing choices.
If we wear our favourite natural fibre garments more often – imagine a 50% increase – we will have a positive impact on climate change.
The study found that we can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions by extending the lifespan of our clothes, especially those made of sustainable natural materials (for example leather). It turns out that the environmental impact of all-natural fibres becomes even more impressive when we look at how they fare compared to new clothes made from petroleum-based materials.
So, what’s the takeaway? Choosing quality, durable fashion pieces made from natural fibres not only gives your wardrobe a stylish look but also plays a key role in fights against climate change. It’s a win-win! Let’s make sure every outfit counts for the planet!
