German leather chemicals firm Schill and Seilacher unveiled a new product to guests in Milan on September 21, reports Leatherbiz.
Described as a 100% biogenic and heavy metal-free tanning technology, it has called the product Succuir. This sugar tanning product is made from waste from a renewable vegetable oil. On presenting the technology, industry consultant Karl Flowers explained that Succuir was produced in line with many “green chemistry principles”.
It produces wet white that can be further processed into a wide variety of leathers, plus shavings and offcuts that can be recycled as fertiliser or composted.
A range of different articles produced using the sugar tannage were on display on the Schill and Seilacher stand and were presented in a variety of vibrant colours.
