Traceability of Yak Hides

Our Tibetan Yak hides can be traced back to their origins.

Francis Tsang writes on Linkedin: In the Tibetan communities of Qinghai, Yak herding serves as both an economic foundation and a cultural tradition. To manage herds effectively, hashtag#eartags are commonly used, combining modern practices with respect for local customs.

These tags serve several important purposes:

Each Yak is assigned a unique ID number (for example, “QH2025-001”), which allows for individual tracking and documentation of lineage for breeding. The tags include information such as vaccination dates, medical history, and gender, all essential for disease prevention and breeding strategies. Additionally, they contain details such as the owner’s or farm’s name and the intended use of the breed (meat or milk), ensuring accountability and optimal resource management.

Designed to endure the harsh conditions of high altitudes, the tags may feature QR codes for quick access to data. Importantly, their implementation involves input from the community, honoring the Tibetan cultural values associated with Yaks.
