Writes on LinkedIn that there is exciting news from the recent preliminary Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of U.S. cowhide production, revealing leather’s far lower environmental impact compared to previous estimations by the Higg Index.
The study, led by Greg Thoma of Colorado State University, funded by the Leather and Hide Council of America, found the environmental footprint of cowhide production overstated by up to 8,000 times.
Kevin Latner from L&HCA highlighted the potential of leather as a renewable, sustainable material. Stay tuned for the full LCA report coming out this month, shaping discussions on sustainable choices in the textile industry.
