The leather staircase is made of vegetable tanned leather and manufactured for a leading industrial designer.⁠ The choice of leather for the stairs was a request from Bill Amberg Studio’s client because the leather surface will tell its own story over time through constant daily use.⁠ The vegetable tanned leather absorbs polish marks, darkens where it has been walked on and is bleached by sunlight, giving it life and character.⁠

Their customer’s appreciation for aging and longevity of the leather means that the stairs never need to be replaced. They will never wear out, just get better with age.
