Hermès has reported revenues of €5.5 billion euros for the first half of 2022, up by 23% compared to the same period in 2021, reports Leatherbiz. Product-wise, the leathergoods and saddlery division contributed more than €2.3 billion towards total revenues, growing by 12% year on year. During the six-month period, Hermès created 800 new jobs around the world, 575 of them in France. At the end of June 2022, its total workforce was 18,400 people. Hermès pointed out on publishing these figures that 60% of people in management roles across the group are women. Plans remain in place for five new leathergoods workshops in the coming years. These include factories at Louviers (Eure) and La Sormonne (Ardennes), scheduled to open in 2023, one at Riom (Puy-de-Dôme), scheduled for 2024, another at L’Isle-d’Espagnac (Charente), scheduled for 2025, and one at Loupes (Gironde), scheduled for 2026. Emphasising its commitment to product repairability and durability, Hermès also pointed out that its workshops had carried out 161,000 repairs in the first half of 2022.
