When hearing the word we think we know what it means yet common knowledge about this material couldn’t be further from the truth. In the first session we will dispel the myths around what leather is and lay the foundation for understanding leather’s position in society today and if it has a place in our material future

14:00: How is leather made?
A simple singular raw material processed in a myriad of ways. Leather is unlike any other material. When we don’t understand the processes involved in the craft of leather making, we cannot understand the material. In this session we will go deep into the art of sustainable leather making. Yusuf will share why it’s important for designers to understand this knowledge and their responsibility in educating on the matter. From farm to fashion

So you want to use leather in your collections? Great! Choosing the right leather for your designs is imperative to ensure you get the look, touch, feel and performance that you need in your design. In this final session we will look at different leather types, finishes and performance requirements that you need to know. Armed with this knowledge you will feel more confident when purchasing and using leather, be able to ask the right questions and troubleshoot when things don’t go to plan
