Rolls-Royce’s Year of the Dragon Special Edition commemorates the Chinese Lunar Year with tailored design features. Released in limited numbers, it combines cultural references with traditional craftsmanship. Central to its appeal is high-grade genuine leather throughout the interior. Report by One 4 Leather.
Leather Selection
For this model, Rolls-Royce sourced specially screened hides to minimise natural imperfections. This ensures consistency in panels and upholstery. All hides were inspected for uniformity in texture, grain, and colour.
Processing and Upholstery
The leather used in the cabin is cut and stitched under the supervision of Rolls-Royce’s in-house craftspeople:
Cabin Design
The Year of the Dragon edition features a muted colour palette enhanced by embroidered motifs. Dragons are present on headrests or door panels, depending on the buyer’s preference. While these decorative elements correspond with the model’s theme, the overall interior layout adheres to Rolls-Royce’s traditional approach: seamless surfaces, generous legroom, and subtle lighting.
Customisation and Colour
Although guided by an overarching theme, customers still have the opportunity for customisation. Rolls-Royce offers options for alternative leather shades and contrast stitching, as well as personal monogramming upon request. This enables owners to preserve the Year of the Dragon details while tailoring the interior to their individual preferences.
Collector’s Market
Owing to its limited production and unique thematic details, the Extended Year of the Dragon Special Edition has gained attention among collectors. Models that showcase original upholstery in pristine condition often retain higher resale value, reflecting an appreciation for the quality and rarity of the leather interior.
