Yes, you did read that right: For nearly 100 years, Popes have chosen Mercedes-Benz cars for their travels. Today I’m excited to share a special milestone in our long-standing trustful relationship with the Vatican: our new electric G-Class has officially taken up duty as the first all-electric Mercedes-Benz Popemobile!
Every G-Class is special – but this one stands above them all. It’s handcrafted, with unique bodywork and has lots of special features to make travelling more comfortable. There’s only one main rear seat, which rotates so the Pope can greet crowds whilst on his travels. And this electric G’s drivetrain has been modified to work perfectly at very slow speeds.
This cooperation honours us deeply and is a prime example of finding the perfect solution for every customer.
