  • 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: In some ecosystems, cattle help maintain biodiversity, as their controlled grazing prevents the excessive proliferation of certain plant species, allowing other species to thrive. The elimination of these animals could lead to dramatic changes in ecosystems, such as the disappearance of certain species of flora and fauna that depend indirectly on cattle.

  • Study: “Livestock Grazing Impacts on Grassland Ecosystems” (Stoddart, Smith, & Box, 2000). This study reviews how properly managed cattle can maintain the biodiversity of grassland ecosystems.

  • Source: FAO has also documented that sustainable grazing management is key to biodiversity in its report “The State of the World’s Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture” (2019).
