Tibet - Yaks form part of Tibetan Life and Culture

Francis Tsang writes on LinkedIn that when discussing “Responsible Yak Leather” as an ambassador of Tibetan culture, it refers to the sustainable and ethical production and use of yak leather, which is deeply intertwined with the Tibetan people’s traditional lifestyle and cultural heritage.

Yaks are essential to many people living on the Tibetan Plateau, providing milk, meat, fur, and leather. Responsible sourcing of yak leather means ensuring that the animals are treated humanely and that the leather is processed in an environmentally friendly manner without causing undue harm to the ecosystem.

Such efforts can help raise awareness about Tibetan culture internationally, showcasing the unique traditions and crafts associated with the region. They can also encourage consumers to appreciate the value of sustainably produced Leather goods and support fair trade practices that benefit the producers and their environment.
