Phan Thi Thanh Xuan, Vice Chairwoman and General Secretary of the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso), has denied social media rumours that Nike plans to move some of its production out of Vietnam to China and Indonesia, reports ILM.

The rumours come in the wake of lockdowns in Vietnam following an outbreak of the Covid-19 Delta variant, causing further production halts and delays across the footwear sector.

While, due to the production disruptions, Nike has been forced to move a number of orders to its sites in other countries, both Lefaso and the Ministry of Industry and Trade continue to reject the suggestion that Nike will entirely move production out of Vietnam.

Deputy Director of the Ministry, Pham Tuan Anh, noted that Nike’s CEO confirmed that the company will not leave Vietnam in a recent meeting with the Prime Minister and members of ministries.
